SIAD supplying system for Italy’s first LNG deposit

April 27, 2020
SIAD Macchine Impianti received a contract to design and install a Smart liquefied natural gas (LNG) system to re-liquefy evaporated gas (boil-off gas) from Italy’s first LNG coastal deposit. The deposit, located in the Port of Ravenna in the Porto Corsini area, serves as a new LNG source for the area.
SIAD’s Smart LNG system will liquefy the boil-off gas through a nitrogen recycling refrigeration system and then send it through a closed-loop circuit into the deposit’s tanks. This method ensures an emission-less transfer of the re-liquefied gas into the deposit, the company said.
SIAD will also provide cryogenic compressor packages that will be installed to manage the boil-off gas when LNG cargo ships transfer LNG to the deposit’s tanks.
The deposit, expected for operation in the second half of 2021, will have a 706,293 cu.ft. (20,000 m3) LNG capacity and more than 35.3 Mcfy (1,000,000 m3/y) of LNG handling capacity, according to SIAD. The deposit’s capacity will enable it to handle enough LNG for 12,000 truck and 50 ferries annually. Estimates indicate the deposit, built by Depositi Italiani GNL S.p.A., will mitigate the production of six million tons of CO2.
